A Beginner’s Guide on Roulette Rules

Want to try your luck in casinos? Other than slot games, one of the easiest casino games you can start with is roulette. It’s an enthralling game of chance that is prevalent in both land-based and online casinos. However, before you play with real money, you need to brush up on the rules of roulette to get a better chance at winning.

Roulette rules are pretty straightforward and easy to pick up for beginners and experienced players alike. Both players have the same chances of winning so all you really need is good luck and thorough comprehension of the rules of roulette.

Basic Rules of Roulette

A game of roulette features a wheel with red and black numbers from 1 to 36, and 1 or 2 green zeroes depending on what kinds of roulette game you’re playing. European roulette has 1 zero while American roulette holds 2 zero numbers. In addition to the wheel, there is a table that has numbers and several supplementary sectors where you can place your bets.

Fundamentally, playing roulette is just correctly taking a guess of the number that the ball will land on each spin of the wheel. There are several types of bets to choose from that result in different payouts.

Before every spin, you will have to place your bets among other players. The dealer will call the end of the betting phase while the wheel is in motion and throws in a ball. Once the ball stops in a number, the winners are paid. Another round begins with the same objective and it goes on as long as you want to play.

The rules of roulette are simple and easy to follow so it all boils down to the type of bet you make. You have to be strategic in placing a wager because there is a limit to the total amount of bets you can play. This depends per table so check with the dealer beforehand on what the maximum bet is for that table.

Types of Bet

There are three major categories of bets you can make. These are the inside, outside, and announced bets. They bring you different odds of winning and different payouts. Just like in other casino games, the more bets you make, the bigger your chances to win.

If you take a closer look at a roulette table, you’ll see the main part is numbered from 0 to 36 while the supplementary sectors are for betting on groups of numbers: odd/even, red/black, 1-18/19-36, columns and dozens.

The bets you place on the number themselves are called inside bets. On the other hand, the bets placed on the other sectors are called outside bets.

With an inside bet, players often bet on a single number and if they win, the payout will be 35 to 1. Outside bets are conceivably the most popular bet of all, more specifically the Red or Black wager. It pays even money and allows players to bet on either colour.

Announced bets are special betting combinations, mostly present in French Roulette and even online European Roulettes. You are not obligated to place chips in specific spots on the roulette table. Preferably, you are only required to put your chips on the table when the dealer calls out the bet. This simplifies betting so that players do not crowd the table with chips.
